Two drug peddlers arrested with mephedrone worth Rs 1 crore in Mumbai

The Mumbai crime branch’s Anti Narcotics Cell apprehended two drug peddlers on Saturday and confiscated mephedrone valued at Rs 1 crore. The police, noting the suspicious behavior of the two individuals, identified as Mohamed Kayamuddin Mohamed Moinuddin Sayyed (32) and Vikas Agwane (33), residents of PMGP colony in Sion and Dharavi respectively, captured them in a lane near Sion, leading to the discovery of 500 gm of the substance.

Around 9 pm, the police team observed the suspects and, deeming their movements suspicious, instructed them to stop. However, the individuals attempted to flee, prompting a pursuit and eventual apprehension, stated the police. Subsequent searches revealed 400 gm of mephedrone in Sayyed’s possession and an additional 100 gm in Agwane’s bag.

Sayyed, identified as a history-sheeter with a criminal record encompassing murder, theft, assault, and narcotics cases, was among the arrested. The police are investigating the reason for carrying such a substantial quantity of mephedrone, suspecting the intent to sell, and efforts are underway to identify the potential buyer.

In a separate incident, the ANC’s Bandra unit arrested a 36-year-old Nigerian, Nnamdi Augustine Samual Okordo, seizing drugs valued at Rs 35.30 lakhs. Okordo, a known drug peddler previously arrested in 2018 for assaulting policemen in Byculla, had been granted bail in 2020. The recent arrest involved the confiscation of 61 gm of mephedrone and 154 gm of methamphetamine from Okordo.
